As part of the major project a full-face cast is needed for image 4. Image 4 is the makeup artists own interpretation of the green man, creating a full character of the Green Man. This was the makeup artist first doing a full head face cast and found it quite difficult to accomplish. Due to restrictions on bringing models into university to get face casting along with the tutors help, the face cast had to be done at home with the help of a family member who lived with them. A latex bold cap was applied to the model, a latex bold cap was used as it more cost effective compared to a vinal bold cap. Blue face paint was added to the outline of the hair line, eyebrows and where the front and back of the cast would meet (figure 1). This is a guide on were the makeup artist need to join the back of the cast to the front to insure it would not get stuck onto the model. Alginate was mixed with water and applied to the back of the head, however the alginate dried quickly there wasn’t enough mixture made for all of the back. The next batch of alginate was the correct amount and temperature (figure 2). Mod rock was the added to the back and a bridge of mod rock was added around the model (figure 3) where the front and back would meet Bray (2009) “in order to keep the material in its correct shape it is necessary to create a supporting shell on the outside of this flexible skin” Vaseline was then added around the edge to ensure the front of the cast would not stick to the mod rock on the back. The exact same process was then done to the front of the face. A slight gap on where the front and back were made so it was easier to release it from the model. The cast came of smoothly a few air bubbles was on the inside. The front and back were taped together ready for the plaster to go into the mould. Once the plaster was set, the Makeup artist took the cast of on the face cast there was a lot of air bubbles that was noticeable and extra plaster around the nose (figure 4). After 4 hours of cleaning up the cast (figure 5) it was ready to start sculpting on.
